Keyboarding 101

Keyboarding 101

As you are aware, OASIS is a public school and therefore must comply with state testing requirements. We understand that this is a bit harder for OASIS families, so we try to accommodate our students by traveling to locations around the state to hopefully be reasonably close to most. We also can help families coordinate with their local school districts to test there if that is an easier option.
However, the one weak point that we have seen year after year is one that we cannot affect--students' familiarity with keyboarding. It is stressful to come in and try and take the SBAC if you are unfamiliar with basic keyboarding. All the preparation in the world can be defeated by the simple lack of keyboarding confidence.
Therefore, we would like to greatly encourage all third graders and any older students who are unfamiliar with typing, to avail yourself of one of the free typing programs that are available. There are several programs, under Student Links, that have been vetted. The sooner you start, the greater your student's proficiency will be come spring time. It is such a valuable skill that they will need no matter what they do in the future. Check it out or ask your OASIS teacher!
